The grassroots movement continues to grow! Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Ligonier requested a statue of Our Lady of America to use for their parade float for the annual Marshmallow Festival. The festival takes place over Labor Day weekend, with the grand finale parade happening on Labor Day. The parishioners and pastor, Father Ryan Timossi, put in a big labor of love to make an incredible and award-winning float!
The float had American flags, a Vatican flag, an Indiana flag, two America 250 flags, red, white, and blue marshmallows, the statue of Our Lady of America, the Divine Mercy statue, an image of Saint Patrick, and an image of the Most Holy Trinity.
The float was part of a larger display of faith and culture. Saint Patrick’s also had two inflatable Saint Patrick costumes, horseback riders, drummers, dancers in traditional garb, and they handed out popsicles.
The parish received two awards for its presentation: Best Organization, recognizing the effort and enthusiasm of everyone who participated, and Grand Marshal’s Award, chosen by the Grand Marshal as the best in the parade.
